Join us for a Weekend of Fun!!
July 9, 10, and 11
Then continue the fun on Saturday and Sunday, July 10th and 11th with “Painting the Lewis Park Fence”
To paraphrase the incomparable Mark Twain from “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” it isn’t every day that a person gets to paint a fence. However, everyone is invited to paint the Lewis Park fence, Main St., in Warwick, with the Warwick Historical Society (WHS) on Saturday, July 10 and Sunday, July 11 from 9am to 12 noon.
Lewis Park is one of 12 properties that the WHS owns and maintains throughout the Village of Warwick. Once a used car dealership, the property was purchased in parcels in the 1960s and generously donated to the Society by the Lewis family for residents to enjoy.
Today, Lewis Park is used for community celebrations and gatherings, concerts, performances, vendor fairs, yoga and exercise classes, and enjoyed at the WHS Party in the Park, an annual celebration in August.
Unlike Tom Sawyer, the WHS will not accept a half-eaten apple to participate. This event is free for WHS members, $5 for non-members, and the funds raised will be used toward the purchase of the materials needed for the project.
New members are always welcome at the WHS. With new affinity groups such as the Cemetery Preservation Crew and the Tours and Tales committee, there are many ways to participate in helping to keep our shared local history alive. As one of the WHS historians likes to say, “yesterday is history”, so join the WHS and help preserve the stories of the people and circumstances that help shape the Town of Warwick. Membership starts at just #$30 a year. To register call 845-986-3236 or visit www.WHSNY.org for more information.
