Repair Cafe | May 18, 2024

Mark your calendars and enter the date in your phone for the next Repair Cafe on Saturday, May 18, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Warwick Senior Center at 132 King’s Highway in Warwick.

While you’re gathering items (limit 2 per person) you need fixed, would you please check if you have an adult bicycle you’d like to donate? Rich White, our bicycle repair specialist, will coordinate delivering the donated bikes to people in our community who need basic transportation. If you can bring your bicycle to the Repair Cafe, Rich will take care of getting your bike to someone who needs it.
There will be another special feature at the May Repair Cafe, when we recognize 15-year-old Wyatt Dul as an “honorary member” of the Repair Cafe Volunteer team. Our knife sharpening expert, Fred Rossi, taught Wyatt the “fine points” of knife sharpening after Wyatt showed an interest in the skill at a past Repair Cafe. Wyatt has taken that skill to the next level, sharpening knives for neighbors and friends, even earning money for his services!
Please continue to spread the word about this unique and totally free service to Warwick and neighboring towns!
Here’s the schedule for the rest of Warwick Repair Cafes for 2024:

Warwick Police Dept. to Hold Two

Junior Police Academy Sessions This Summer

Children will have an opportunity this summer to experience the various aspects of police work in a fun and structured setting at the Warwick Police Department’s Junior Police Academy (JPA). Students ages 10 to 15 residing in the Warwick, Greenwood Lake and Florida school districts are invited to participate.

The academy is a collaborative effort between the Warwick Police Dept. and the Warwick Valley Central School District. Two sessions will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Warwick Valley High School, located at 89 Sanfordville Rd. in Warwick.

Session I will take place from July 15 through July 26, and Session II is set for August 5 through August 16. Students must be available to attend all 10 days of the program.

Led by the WPD’s School Resource Officers, the goal of this program is for children to enjoy themselves while gaining an understanding of the demands of police training and service. The JPA consists of physical training, lectures, presentations, field trips and hands‐on activities.

All children must complete a two-question essay. There is a limited capacity with a preference to first-time attendees. The cost for the program is $250 and includes two WJPA shirts, hat and water bottle.

To register by the June 10 application deadline, visit www.wpdjpa.com. For more information, send an email to WarwickJPA@gmail.com.
