There will be a public hearing on the 16th day of January 2024 at 7:30 p.m., at Village Hall, 77 Main Street, Warwick, New York 10990 to introduce Community Choice Aggregation (aka “CCA”). I hope you will plan to attend this meeting and become informed about CCA, especially if you are a Village resident.
At its heart, CCA is very simple —
-
The Village will join with other municipalities to negotiate with electricity suppliers.
-
If the negotiations lead to an agreement at a good price, the residents of the Village will potentially gain access to a lower cost for electricity than they would find individually.
-
O&R will continue to be the only electricity delivery company for Warwick, but O&R will no longer be the default supplier of electricity.
-
CCAs sometimes can provide renewably generated electricity and/or give participating customers community solar credits — which is what makes this such a big (and good) deal.
-
Everyone has the choice to opt out of the new default supplier, and could go back to O&R or select another ESCO.
While CCA is essentially simple, understanding it can quickly get complex.
How many of us understand the difference between our electricity delivery company and our electricity supply company? I mean, who reads and understands their electricity bill???
How many of us understand what an ESCO is or know how to get information on which ESCO might best suit our interests?
How do wholesale electricity markets work and how could participating in Community Choice Aggregation save money for everyone in our community?
