“Beyond Jazz” Concert in Lewis Park
June 6 at 5 pm
Bring your picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs to a relaxing evening of music at the Beyond Jazz concert, performed by members of the Hudson Valley Jazz Festival and hosted by the Warwick Historical Society (WHS) on Sunday, June 6 at 5 pm in lovely Lewis Park.
Beyond Jazz is an improvisational “jazz” ensemble featuring Steve Rubin on drums and percussion, Rick Savage on trumpet, flugelhorn and percussion, Joe Vincent Tranchina on keyboards, Ed Littman on guitar and effects, J. Brunka on electric and acoustic basses and effects, Ian Smit on guitar and effects, and Bob Rosen on saxophone. Each musician is an equal component with an interesting background, from composers to performers, music educators to recording engineers.
The group composes as it plays while injecting influences from jazz, classical, electronic,
R & B, rock and other unlabeled musical influences. Each performance is unique and unscripted.
Tickets are on sale for $10 for WHS members, 2 for $18 or $12 per person, 2 for $20 for non-members. Call 845-986-3236 to make a reservation.

Weekend of Fun @ Lewis Park
Jul 9 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Join us for a Weekend of Fun!!
July 9, 10, and 11
Let’s start the fun on Friday, July 9th with “An Evening of Music
The Greenwood Lake Theater, in partnership with the Warwick Historical Society, presents “An Evening of Music” on Friday, July 9th at 7:00pm at Lewis Park on Main Street in Warwick, NY. There is a suggested donation of $10.00.
Come spend a balmy summer evening enjoying everyone’s favorite songs while relaxing in the serene setting of Warwick’s Lewis Park. Featured music includes popular selections from Broadway, Jazz/Standards and Pops. Singers for this performance include Kevin Milnes, Gitana Mims, Mary Virginia, Katherine Weatherford and featuring Thea Silverstein. A perfect event for friends and family!
For more information regarding Greenwood Lake Theater, its upcoming “Detestable Arts” immersive theater experience in October 2021 and other programs, please visit www.greenwoodlaketheater.org or call the Warwick Historical Society box office at
845-986-3236, ext. 101.
Then continue the fun on Saturday and Sunday, July 10th and 11th with “Painting the Lewis Park Fence”
To paraphrase the incomparable Mark Twain from “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” it isn’t every day that a person gets to paint a fence. However, everyone is invited to paint the Lewis Park fence, Main St., in Warwick, with the Warwick Historical Society (WHS) on Saturday, July 10 and Sunday, July 11 from 9am to 12 noon.
Lewis Park is one of 12 properties that the WHS owns and maintains throughout the Village of Warwick. Once a used car dealership, the property was purchased in parcels in the 1960s and generously donated to the Society by the Lewis family for residents to enjoy.
Today, Lewis Park is used for community celebrations and gatherings, concerts, performances, vendor fairs, yoga and exercise classes, and enjoyed at the WHS Party in the Park, an annual celebration in August.
Unlike Tom Sawyer, the WHS will not accept a half-eaten apple to participate. This event is free for WHS members, $5 for non-members, and the funds raised will be used toward the purchase of the materials needed for the project.
New members are always welcome at the WHS. With new affinity groups such as the Cemetery Preservation Crew and the Tours and Tales committee, there are many ways to participate in helping to keep our shared local history alive. As one of the WHS historians likes to say, “yesterday is history”, so join the WHS and help preserve the stories of the people and circumstances that help shape the Town of Warwick. Membership starts at just #$30 a year. To register call 845-986-3236 or visit www.WHSNY.org for more information.

HOW DOES OUR FESTIVAL WORK, VIRTUALLY?

All forms were submitted online through Eventbrite and Google Forms. It costs $15 to submit and we accept submissions from all over the world! All of the plays were then read by the entire panel of judges and a selection of 14 plays is made- 7 for each night. A selection of 4-5 directors chooses the plays they want to work with and go forward with the auditioning process. Once actors are cast, everyone rehearses over zoom. During this time, our worldwide audience is scooping up tickets through Eventbrite. Finally, on the day of the show, the audience is sent a link to view the live recording through an unlisted Youtube link, only accessible by ticket holders. From there, audience members and playwrights can interact in the chat, ask questions, and sing their praises! Theater, even virtually, will find a way to bring people together.
